What does a Pharmacy Technician do?
A Pharmacy Technician's duties include a variety of tasks that assist the pharmacist with keeping the pharmacy running efficiently.
As a Pharmacy Technician, you will probably interact with the public, so it's important that you have good people skills. You should also have a good eye for detail; and be alert, organized and efficient at all times. Teamwork is also an important aspect of being a Pharmacy Technician, as you will not only be working with the public, but with pharmacists, pharmacy aids, and various healthcare professionals as well. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Counting and bottling pills
- Labeling prescription bottles
- Entering patient information into the pharmacy computer
- Coordinating information with insurance companies
- Waiting on customers

Class Schedule
The Pharmacy Technician program is 15 months in length and consists of theory, laboratory, and externship. Classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Externships are scheduled during the last quarter of the program and may include Fridays.
Advanced Placement/Test Outs
Any active or newly enrolled student may apply for advanced placement status. Performance test outs may be arranged through the Director of Education on a request basis and must be taken prior to the beginning of the start of the class. Any student who has sat in classes is ineligible for advanced placement. For more details regarding the Advanced Placement Policy, please refer to the Course Catalog.
Program Outline
This program is designed to prepare students to assist and support pharmacists in providing medications to patients and the operations in hospital and community pharmacy settings. Students will obtain broad knowledge of pharmacy practice and be skilled in the techniques required to order, stock, package, prepare and dispense medications.
